Our mission is to develop innovative and simple instructional material to drive the concepts into the minds of students and infuse scientific temper in the students and guide them towards research in communication engineering. It is also to grow a committed group of competent teachers striving for excellence, be it in teaching or research and to develop Collaborative Research and Development linkages with leading organizations in India and abroad.

The Department has been accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) in the year 2003. It is also ISO9001 certified. The department is well-equipped with the state-of-art laboratories.

Programmes offered by the Department are:

  • B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • M.E. in Communication System
  • M.E. In Applied Electronics
  • Ph.D / MS (by Research)

Scope of the Department

  • Ability to apply the concepts of mathematics, science, and engineering effectively.
  • Ability to design, analyse and interpret data through experiments.
  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • Ability to understand professional and ethical responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
  • Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

Course Opportunities

The undergraduates from this department have become professional engineers, employed both in core and software companies. They are well represented at core companies, such as Robert Bosch, Qualcomm, Aricent Group, Wipro R&D and as well as smaller start-up companies. They have become successful Software developers and Managers in the leading software companies, such as Thoughtworks, Infosys, Cognizant Technology Solutions, HCL Technologies, TCS, IGate and etc. Many of our students pursue higher education to obtain MS, MBA and PhD degrees in foreign universities. Also, Some of the undergraduates working in Public sector units, such as BSNL, National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) Ltd, DRDO, ISRO, BHEL, BEL and etc.

To improve Teaching Learning Process:

  • The department consistently organizes faculty development programmes sponsored by Anna University, short term training programme sponsored by AICTE - ISTE and national workshops sponsored by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology for the faculty, researchers and students.
  • A National Conference on "Bio-Signal Communication & Networking - NCBCN 2005" was organized.
  • The department has organized International
Conference on "Wireless Communication and Networks", "Intelligent Sensing & Information Processing", in collaboration with Melbourne University, Australia and HiPAAC 2007.
  • The department has organized International Conference on “Wireless Communications and Sensor Computing (ICWCSC’10).

Research Activities:

  • As part of research, both Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate students are encouraged to carry out their project in resent research fields across various areas of Electronics and Communication.
  • As part of the curriculum they also publish their work in National and International Conferences and Journals
  • 38 Faculty members (Internal and External candidates) have registered for Ph.D. Programme.
  • The department is carrying out following funded projects:

  • SSN funded project on Reconfigurable optical components based on photonic band gap materials
  • AICTE funded project on Reconfigurable Wavelength Selective Filter based on One Dimensional Photonic Bandgap Structures in Silicon for Roadm Applications
  • IGCAR funded projects on Design and Development of Wireless Sensor Node and FPGA Design for Pulsed Signal Processing
  • NIOT, Chennai funded project on Design and Hardware Implementation of an Adaptive Filter to Improve the Signal to Noise Ratio due to Wind Driven Ambient Noise in Shallow Water.
  • AICTE funded project on Assessment and Intelligibility modification system for Dysarthric speakers.
